How to Get Started With ABA Therapy
Key Takeaways
Getting started involves four steps — contacting us, joining the waitlist, completing an intake assessment, and beginning services. To hold your spot on our waitlist, you’ll need your child’s ASD evaluation, insurance information, and basic contact details. Wait times vary. Here’s everything you need to know.
You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone
If your child has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder — or you’re in the middle of the evaluation process — you already know how much information gets thrown at families in a short amount of time. ABA therapy. Speech therapy. Occupational therapy. Waitlists. Insurance. It’s a lot.
We want the process of starting at Climb to be as clear and low-stress as possible. This page walks you through every step, so you know exactly what to expect.
Step-by-Step: Starting ABA Therapy at Climb
Step 1 — Reach out to us
The first step is simply getting in touch. You can fill out our contact form, call our office, or email us. We’ll ask a few basic questions about your child, their diagnosis, your insurance, and what you’re hoping to find in an ABA provider.
There’s no obligation at this stage — we want you to find the right fit for your family, and we’re happy to answer questions before you commit to anything.
Step 2 — Join the waitlist
If it seems like Climb could be a good fit, we’ll add your child to our waitlist. To hold a spot, we’ll need the following:
- Your child’s full name and date of birth
- Your family’s mailing address
- Your child’s insurance information (carrier, member ID, subscriber name)
- A copy of your child’s formal ASD evaluation
We can’t hold a waitlist spot without all four of these pieces of information — the insurance and diagnosis documentation are required to move forward with authorization for services.
Step 3 — Wait time and communication
Our waitlist is active, and wait times vary depending on our current caseload and referral volume. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process. If your information or insurance changes while you’re on the waitlist, please let us know right away — it can affect authorization timelines.
We know waiting is hard. If you have questions while you’re on our list, don’t hesitate to call or email.
Step 4 — Intake assessment
Once a spot opens for your child, we’ll schedule an intake assessment with one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). This is a dedicated session where your BCBA will get to know your child, review their history, and complete the assessments needed to build an individualized treatment plan.
You’ll have time during this appointment to ask questions, share what you know about your child, and make sure you understand what services will look like going forward.
Step 5 — Begin services
After the assessment and once insurance authorization is in place, your child begins clinic-based sessions at Climb. Your BCBA will walk you through the initial treatment plan and explain how progress will be tracked and communicated to your family.
What to Have Ready Before You Call
Gathering these items before you reach out will make the process faster:
- Your child’s ASD evaluation (from a psychologist, developmental pediatrician, or similar provider)
- Insurance card (front and back)
- Your child’s date of birth
- The name of your child’s current pediatrician (helpful but not required)
If you don’t have all of these yet — for example, if your evaluation is still in progress — reach out anyway. We can answer questions and give you a sense of timing even if you’re not quite ready to join the waitlist.

Common Questions About How to Get Started With ABA Therapy
Click on questions to see answers
What if we're still waiting on our child's ASD diagnosis?
We understand the evaluation process takes time. You’re welcome to contact us and ask questions while you wait. We can add your child to the waitlist as soon as you have a formal diagnosis and evaluation in hand.
Does my child need to be verbal to start ABA therapy?
No. We work with children across a wide range of communication abilities, including children who are nonverbal or minimally verbal. Our verbal behavior approach is designed to meet children exactly where they are.
What ages do you serve?
We currently work with children ages 2 through 11. Our clinic is designed with this age range in mind, and our team is experienced in supporting kids at various developmental stages within this window.
How many hours of therapy will my child receive?
Recommended hours vary based on your child’s needs and what’s authorized by your insurance. This will be determined during the intake assessment and reflected in your child’s individualized treatment plan.
Do you offer in-home services?
Our services are clinic-based. When a clinician determines that a home visit supports skill generalization for a specific client, those can be arranged — but in-home services are not offered as the primary location for ongoing treatment.
What if we're placed on the waitlist and our insurance changes?
Please let us know immediately. Insurance changes can affect authorization and your position on the waitlist, so it’s important we have current information on file.
